Daily Hours: Monday - Thursday 8am- 4:30pm (Closed Fridays)
Closures follow Summit County Public School breaks during the school year, and in the summer, there is an ‘August break’.
Program:
We are a mixed aged classroom, ages 2.5 to 6, allowing for younger students to learn and build social-emotional skills by observing and interacting with older peers, while older students reinforce their knowledge and confidence by mentoring younger classmates.
Montessori curriculum centers on a long, uninterrupted 3-hour work cycle where children freely choose meaningful activities, fostering concentration, independence, and deep engagement with materials like practical life (pouring, cooking), sensorial (puzzles, matching), math, and language (sandpaper letters). This "sacred" time, guided by teachers (guides), allows for individual lessons, self-directed learning, social interaction, and quiet reflection, leading to a sense of accomplishment and inner calm, unlike rushed, interrupted traditional schooling.
Daily acitivities:
•Practical Life: pouring, cleaning, food preparation, dressing skills, and care of the environment
•Sensorial Exploration: materials that refine the senses through touch, sight, sound, smell, tasting and movement
•Language: storytelling, conversation, early reading and writing, and vocabulary development
•Mathematics: concrete materials that build number sense, counting, and early problem-solving
•Science & Nature: observation, experimentation, and exploration of the natural world
•Cultural Studies: geography, music, art, and exposure to diverse cultures
•Peace & Social-Emotional Learning: cooperation, conflict resolution, and emotional awareness
•Outdoor Play: daily time outdoors for gross motor development, nature-based play, and fresh air
Children also participate in group times, creative activities, and opportunities to build friendships in a calm, respectful community.
